COVID-19: Teenagers Should Stay Home Too

One very strong opinion I have has to do with the coronavirus and how the general public seems to not be listening to the government about staying at home, especially my generation. The government has really been urging the public to stay home and not go out because you run the risk of spreading the disease to multiple people. They announce this to the public almost every day on the news. However, it seems like no matter what they say, people are not listening, especially kids from Generation Z.

I am a part of Gen Z and my peers seem to think that they’re immune to this disease because they’re younger. Just a few weeks ago, there was a big problem in Florida over spring break with teenagers and young adults not listening to the government about staying in. The beaches were flooded with rambunctious college and high school kids who were oblivious to the fact that there is a pandemic going on in the world. And if you saw the news interviews, some of these kids said they don’t even care about the virus because they don’t think they could get it since they are young and healthy.

And now the virus is proving to not only affect older people but also younger people. A number of those kids visiting beaches had to get quarantined and some of them even contracted the virus. What people aren’t realizing is how contagious this disease is. For example, all those spring breakers might not be sick now, but they just forced every individual who was on a plane with them to be quarantined now, and they have to worry about their own health. Who knows? Maybe there was an old couple on that flight who can die from this, or a family with kids.

People need to stop being selfish and treat this seriously because until individuals start taking this seriously, it’s only going to get worse from here.
