Students Celebrate Seniors on Winter Sports Senior Nights

Gilmour Academy has seven winter sports teams with 24 seniors. In order to celebrate the seniors’ high school careers, many attend the various Senior Nights.

At Senior Night, the team’s seniors get recognized for their accomplishments throughout the program. While the swim team already had their senior night, there is still an opportunity for students to catch the five other teams’ special games. The following is the schedule for the upcoming senior nights:

Sunday, February 2nd – Varsity A Hockey, Game at 3 p.m., ceremony at the conclusion of 1st period

Saturday, February 8th – Girls Basketball, Game at 2:30 p.m., ceremony at approximately 2 p.m.

Friday, February 21st – Boys Basketball, Cheerleading, and Gymnastics, game at 7 p.m., ceremony at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Friday, February 28- Prep Hockey, Game at 7:50 p.m., ceremony at approximately 7:20 p.m.

Taking a Look at the Seniors’ Final Seasons

Sam Casa (‘20), a member of Gilmour’s new Spirit Club, said, “The seniors, at the end of the day, set the tone with how the season will be.”  With this being said, the seniors step up to any challenges by being leaders for others and setting good examples for their teammates. Casa said, “Shown by the team’s records, the seniors are doing a great job leading their teams to success.”

Why Be There

Seniors expressed it is important to commemorate their seniors’ high school athletic careers. Casa said that going to Senior Nights is “the least we can do [to] thank them and make it memorable.” Additionally, Casa said, “The student body can make it a night to remember by cheering them on their last time at home.”

Senior Nights are designed to give the student body an opportunity to recognize the time, hard work, and commitment the seniors have put in over the years as they move on from Gilmour and continue their journey wherever life takes them. In the coming weeks, students may attend and support the seniors as they get recognized on their Senior Night.
