Varsity A Hockey Wins Battle Of SOM

On December 4, 2019 the University School Preppers traveled to Gilmour Academy for a hockey face off. The rivalry between US and Gilmour has been ongoing for many years now, making this game very high energy and fun.

The Lancers won the game by a score of 3-0 led by two goals by Frankie Valenti (’21) and a goal by Assistant Captain Justin Evans (’20). Valenti said he felt that “[his] first goal got the entire rink excited, changing the momentum and eventual outcome of the game.” Valenti’s first goal was in the second period and his second was in the third period. Evans’ goal was at the start of the third period. Evans said “[he] was happy to get the fans going again and help put the team in a better spot to win.”

Lancers Faced #1Wildcats

When the Lancers faced the number one ranked team in the state Wildcats on Wednesday December 11, the Lancers lost 2-1. According to Eric Anton (’22), “There were a lot of people there. Both teams played with high intensity. Gilmour tied the game 1-1 in the second. Unfortunately, Ignatius scored their second goal at the end of the second.”

Against St. Ignatius, the goalie, Toby Herlong (’21), had 46 saves. Ryan Mueller (’22) was there. He said, “It’s impressive to have 46 saves in a single game. Defending against that many shots is very tiring.” Anton agreed.
