Gilmour defeats top local competition.
Eight of the top volleyball teams from the area competed in the Lancer Invitational on September 7. Teams, in addition to Gilmour, were Brecksville-Broadview Heights, Brunswick, Huron, Lake Catholic, Norwalk, Riverside, and Waynedale.
In the first round, Gilmour beat Brecksville-Broadview Heights in a 2-0 series. In the second round, Gilmour defeated Norwalk in another 2-0 series. Gilmour would then go on to defeat Huron in the tournament championship in yet another 2-0 series.
Opposite hitter Jocelyn Carter (’21) attributes the Lancers’ success to great communication and a determined mindset. Carter said, “We were determined to come out on top!”

Also, two volleyball players received individual achievements. University of Pittsburg commit Emmy Klika (’21) was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for her outstanding performance as libero. Brinn MacLellan (’21) was named to the All-Tournament team and was recognized as News-Herald Player of the Week.
Gilmour is ranked second in News-Herald Top of the Crop and seventh in the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association.
Katelyn Hanchin (’20) said, “I feel like this accomplishment is pretty big because we have of momentum. The tournament made us work together and will give us the drive we need to come forward.”
