On Friday, May 4, Gilmour Academy’s Moot Court team traveled to states to compete against other qualifying schools. The outcome was better than the team expected. Sabrina Bauman (’18) and Allie Mikolanis (’19) were crowned the title of the Ohio Moot Court State Champions. Along with the duo, Gabe Gainer (’19), Gwen Mascha (’21), and Jackson Sturdevant (’20) advanced to the quarterfinals and received 1st place in Respondent Brief. Bauman and Mikolanis also were 2nd Place in Petitioner Brief. Mikolanis went on to receive a third award and was named Best Respondent Advocate out of all the competitors.

Mikolanis said, “It was a complete and total shock when we won. I knew we’d done well, but I wasn’t expecting it! Everyone did such a great job!”
Sturdevant described Moot Court as “an imaginary court trial, where we use real-life court trials to study for whatever case we’re given. It’s a lot of hard work and thinking on your feet, but it was all worth it when we won states!”
