On Saturday, October 7, Gilmour Academy will be hosting Homecoming. To kick off this special day, many sports teams including volleyball, soccer, and football will have their annual Homecoming face-offs.
Starting at 9 a.m., the Girls Soccer team battles Brush. At 11 a.m., the Boys Soccer team competes with North Ridgeville High School. The Varsity Football festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. with tailgating and special activities for all ages to enjoy. An induction ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. to set the tone for a perfect afternoon of football. At 2 p.m., attendants will gather at Weber Stadium for excitement and fun as family and friends watch the boys play Garfield Heights High School. The Varsity Football record stands at 4-2 as they are coming into the upcoming game with determination and confidence for a win.
Students of Gilmour Academy have been showing spirit all week with dress-down days. Spirit Week is designed to set the tone for a perfect Saturday night where the whole school can gather together for fun, food, dancing and excitement. It all starts with purchasing a creatively designed t-shirt for $15 or both a T-shirt and a ticket for $30. A night to remember is a ticket away. The 2017 Homecoming dance starts at 8 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m.
The Student Council has been actively working since last Spring to make sure this event is a success. The theme for this year’s Homecoming is “A Night In Cleveland.” Each part of the Athletic Center will be filled with a different spot of Cleveland including Little Italy, Play House Square, Ohio City, and Jack Cleveland Casino. Student Council member, Madison Wagner (`19), explains the importance of this event to her and what students can expect. She said, “Homecoming is going to be awesome! We are going to have a lot of cool decorations and food for the student body to enjoy.” John Kunzo (`18) said, “I am most excited to spend time with my friends while dancing and watching everyone enjoy the perfect night we have planned for them.”
All who planned the 2017 Homecoming dance hope the night will be filled with smiles, fun, dancing and music that will get the student body moving.
