Mr. Ryan Ryzner is now the Assistant Director of the Middle School. This is his fourth year at Gilmour Academy. Previously, he has taught English 10, Rebuilding Cleveland, and Leadership and Civic Learning in the Upper School. In addition, he is currently the English Department Chair and the VECTOR Program Director.

Ryzner said that he became the Assistant Director of the Middle School because he wanted to transition into administration. In his new position, Ryzner is in charge of student life and discipline in the Middle School.

Ryzner is also responsible of designing off-campus learning opportunities for the Middle School. In October, the Middle School will be going to The Holden Arboretum, and in May students will go to Boston, Massachusetts.

Along with his new position, Ryzner teaches Mythology and will instruct Leadership and Civil Learning. He said that he has coordinated with Mrs. Elizabeth Edmondson, Director of Middle School, and Ms. Megan Fowler, Middle School Guidance Counselor, who will fill in for him while he is in the classroom.

Ryzner said that he still wants to be able to teach as well as help students find their passions through the VECTOR program. The VECTOR program is an academic extension program for Upper School students interested in five different career fields: science and medicine, engineering and design, creativity and personal expression, entrepreneurship and commerce, and civic engagement. Ryzner said that he is excited for the first group of students involved in VECTOR to complete the program.

As the Assistant Director of the Middle School, Ryzner said that he is looking forward to helping prepare the eighth graders to transition into their freshman year of high school in the Upper School.
