In their freshman year Peter Schmitd-Sane (`09) and Nick Hostoffer (`09) started the Chess and Board Games Club in order to have an organized way to play the game that they love, chess.
The club meets every Thursday and Friday after school until 4:30 in Mr. Vanek’s room in the upper level of the middle school building. During meetings members play each other, primarly in chess but also in other card or board games of their choice.
One of the main concerns of the club is that this year may be its last, seeing as how they have a large number of seniors. Some of the leading members include Jamie Bergsman (`09), Austin Barrnett (`09), Steven Seliskar (`09), Brandon Adamany (`09) and Alex Keene (`10). After May 1st, the club will be short on members.
In the past club members have participated in tournaments and timed their games in practice, setting everything up as close to a professional game of chess as possible. By practicing this way members get to push their game to the highest level.

Anyone is welcome to join and show up any time to play chess.Bring friends and favorite board games. Spectators are welcome. In the words of the founder, Peter Schmidt-Sane (`09), “If you want see an intense game of chess stop by and get in on the action!“
